According to a survey conducted by Oxford University Press, nearly three-quarters of researchers are unclear about which uses of artificial intelligence should be disclosed in academic work, while almost half acknowledge that they have not fully disclosed their use of AI.

Published on 10 September 2026, the survey was based on responses from more than 2,600 researchers worldwide and revealed significant uncertainty about AI transparency requirements in research. Seventy-four percent of respondents were unsure about which uses of AI should be disclosed.

In addition, 48% of respondents said they had not fully disclosed their use of AI, while 44% expressed concern that accurately disclosing their use of AI would negatively affect how others perceive their work.
