Publishers join global coalition to condemn AI for copyright theft

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) has joined with more than 10,000 creators, including authors, musicians, and artists, to denounce the theft of their intellectual property rights by large tech companies. They argue that many generative models of artificial intelligence would not exist without the use of their works, which is a clear violation of copyright.
In the context of developing artificial intelligence policies, authors and publishers call on governments to respect copyright principles, emphasising that the reproduction and creation of new works requires the consent of their authors.
AAP President Maria A. Pallante stressed the importance of human authorship for the development of technology, saying that creators work for the benefit of society, not for the benefit of technology companies that disregard property rights.
Earlier, we wrote that more than 10,000 artists signed a letter of protest against the use of their work to create artificial intelligence tools.
